We both enjoyed the season and felt it met all aspects of a well run championship. Racing in a fair environment is important for a young driver as it allows him to concentrate on his performance without the frustration unfair play. Handling the media was another growth area for him, where I felt it was there but yet it was not overwhelming, and it allowed him to gain the confidence that enabled him to represent his country, his sponsors, and himself positively. The most important victory we achieved by the end of the season was not only for Fahad to win the SR3 1500 class but also the friends we made and the wonderful Motorsport moments we had along the season. “In mid 2008 I came up with the crazy idea to import a Caterham 7 Roadsport into Dubai with a view to use it for my sole form of transport. An article in a Dubai based auto journal ran a feature on such a car which included the contact details of Gulf Sport racing – the importers. A quick phone call to Barry Hope resulted in a flurry of e-mails where individual specifications were reviewed and discussed, with an order finally being placed on October 2008. Regular clear updates were conveyed to me regarding the production and shipping dates with an arrival late in December as forecast. The car was imported in kit form with a view that Gulf sports would assemble it in their workshop in Al Quoz, which they did with remarkable speed and efficiency, with occasional hiccups due to missing parts. By January 2009 all was ready and Gulf Sports duly registered it for the road which was far from straight forward given the nature of the car. Gulf Sports quality of build was superb with early teething problems associated with transmission part defects being dealt with very efficiently. I have run the car every day since first registering it, apart from summer upgrades that I have opted for. It is now time to repatriate the car and Gulf Sports have recently converted the car from left to right hand drive. I can honestly say that without Gulf Sports technical expertise and diligence it would have been impossible to develop and run such a car in Dubai. The level of experience and skill of their technical staff is second to none.”
